In 2021, Yael Martínez spent several weeks traveling between Mexico and Honduras, capturing families that had embarked on the dangerous journey to the United States. Thousands of families have fled violence and insecruty in Honduras in search of a better life, but many end up stranded in Mexico. Martínez met Angél and family in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico on his last day photographing families near the train tracks, hoping to jump on board passing trains. The family had been traveling for 16 days, 14 of which were on foot. “This image makes me think that what divides us is our own shadow, our fears and projections of what we were and what we can be, of what we do not recognize, of the other”.
